What is a BowTie in process safety?
A BowTie is a diagram of how a hazard could turn into an incident. Threats sit on the left, consequences on the right and the top event in the middle, with preventive barriers on one side and mitigating barriers on the other.
What is barrier management software?
Software that keeps track of whether the safety barriers in each BowTie are in place and working. Basira Barrier shows when a barrier is degraded, impaired, bypassed or overdue, and what that does to the risk on each train.
What is an operational risk assessment (ORA)?
An ORA assesses the extra risk when a barrier is impaired, bypassed or overridden, and sets the conditions and compensatory measures under which operation can continue. In Basira each ORA has a priority from 1 to 4.
How often does Basira update barrier status?
Every 5 minutes. Basira reads barrier states from your process historian, control system journal, permits to work and ERP work orders.
